Focusing on advanced methodologies, this book explores the detection of epileptic seizures and the identification of mental states within brain-computer interface systems using EEG signals. It presents innovative techniques designed to extract critical information from EEG data, enhancing the accuracy of abnormality detection. These new methods aim to streamline current practices, reducing the time and errors associated with traditional approaches in analyzing EEG signals.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2010 International Conferences on Database Theory and Application (DTA 2010) and Bio-Science and Bio-Technology (BSBT 2010), part of the Second International Mega-Conference on Future Generation Information Technology (FGIT 2010). These conferences unite researchers from academia and industry to exchange ideas and solutions related to databases, data mining, and biomedicine, along with their connections to computational sciences, mathematics, and information technology. A total of 1,630 papers were submitted to FGIT 2010 from 30 countries, including 175 for DTA/BSBT 2010. The review process was rigorous, resulting in 395 accepted papers for FGIT 2010 and 40 for DTA/BSBT 2010. From these, 6 papers were chosen for a special FGIT 2010 volume published by Springer in the LNCS series. This volume contains 31 papers, while 3 were withdrawn for technical reasons. We extend our gratitude to the DTA/BSBT 2010 International Advisory Boards, the International Program Committees, and all organizations and individuals who supported this publication, including SERSC and Springer. The success of these conferences was also made possible by the generous support of our sponsors and the dedication of the Chairs and Organizing Committee.

Due to the lack of a uniform schema for Web documents and the sheer amount and dynamics of Web data, both the effectiveness and the efficiency of information management and retrieval of Web data is often unsatisfactory when using conventional data management techniques. Web community, defined as a set of Web-based documents with its own logical structure, is a flexible and efficient approach to support information retrieval and to implement various applications. Zhang and his co-authors explain how to construct and analyse Web communities based on information like Web document contents, hyperlinks, or user access logs. Their approaches combine results from Web search algorithms, Web clustering methods, and Web usage mining. They also detail the necessary preliminaries needed to understand the algorithms presented, and they discuss several successful existing applications. Researchers and students in information retrieval and Web search find in this all the necessary basics and methods to create and understand Web communities. Professionals developing Web applications will additionally benefit from the samples presented for their own designs and implementations.

This volume contains papers selected for presentation at the 7th Asia Pacific Conference on Web Technology (APWeb 2005), which was held in Shanghai, China during March 29–April 1, 2005. APWeb is an international conference series on WWW technologies and is the primary forum for researchers and practitioners from both academia and industry to exchange knowledge on WWW-related technologies and new advanced applications. APWeb 2005 received 420 submissions from 21 countries and regions worldwide, including China, Korea, Australia, Japan, Taiwan, France, UK, Canada, USA, India, Hong Kong, Brazil, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, Turkey, Spain, Greece, Belgium, New Zealand, and UAE. After a thorough review process for each submission by the Program Committee members and expert reviewers recommended by PC members, APWeb 2005 accepted 71 regular research papers (acceptance ratio 16.9%) and 22 short papers (acceptance ratio 5.2%). This volume also includes 6 keynote papers and 11 invited demo papers. The keynote lectures were given by six leading experts: Prof. Ah Chung Tsoi (Australia Research Council), Prof. Zhiyong Liu (National Nature Science Foundation of China), Prof. John Mylopoulos (University of Toronto), Prof. Ramamohanarao (Rao) Kotagiri (University of Melbourne), Prof. Calton Pu (Georgia Tech), and Prof. Zhiwei Xu (Chinese Academy of Sciences).
