Proceedings of the 3rd European Congress on Sign Language Research held in Hamburg, Germany in July 1989. The text begins with a series of papers devoted to the history of sign language and quickly turns to addressing various aspects of bilingualism, the importance of mouth patterns, a neuropsychological assessment of sign language, and the acquisition of sign language in terms of system linguistics. Later papers also discuss the use of new media for the development of sign writing systems, the transcription of sign language, and the use of video and computer technology for the production of sign dictionaries.
