Více o knize

„What I see, I remember“: Doris Schmid works in time-based media: video, film, and photography. PROJECTIONS is the first comprehensive publication about her work, and features texts and images by other artists and musicians. At the center of her work are always questions of time and space, making memory spaces accessible and thus interlacing real and filmic spaces, present and past, and travels in real space and in projections. In her video works, Schmid uses the technique of projection in various ways: she films on the road, from moving cars and trains, and in turn films the projections of these movies while moving, she projects films onto bodies and landscapes, and realizes concert projects for the stage. The filmic technique of the montage, adapted here for the printed medium, reflects the character of Schmid's works: video stills, photographs, and exhibition views are assembled into associative thematic groups in meticulously coordinated photo spreads. Peeled from their original contexts, they open up to tell new stories. Along with an in-depth conversation with Klaus W. Eisenlohr, the book features one artistic contribution each by three musical companions, Katharina Klement, Jürgen Palmtag und Thomas Peter, to add to the dialogue between image and sound. PROJECTIONS also presents a photographic-literary project with the Swiss artist Klaus Merz: Doris Schmid has been taking a „Photo of the Day“ as a mental manifestation and undercurrent of her work since 1995. One photograph each was selected from the 365 pictures per year (2005–2015) that Merz then took as a starting point for ten short literary vignettes.
