This thesis demonstrates the feasibility of a trimmable horizontal stabilizer with a testable tie rod by using a model based approach. The potential of the new developed stabilizer system is clearly identified by the evaluation based on a decision matrix. The development of a hybrid model as well as the design of a control and monitoring concept are one main focus of the thesis and provide the basis for the examination. For the analysis of the stabilizer system a concept for the virtual validation is introduced. The approach is not bounded to special applications and is generally valid for all aircraft systems. The methods applied within this thesis provide design guidelines which may also be applicable to other mechatronic systems, especially the new application of reachability analysis to reduce test sequences.
