When Godfrey invited readers of his "Sunday Times" column to suggest their favourite pieces on Christmas, the response was so overwhelming that he decided to collect them together with some of his own favourites - resulting in this eclectic anthology of verse and prose, short stories, reminiscences and diary entries, ranging from Coward to Shakespeare, from the traditional to the subversive, the whimsical to the sinister, the ironic to the tragic and illustrated with an equally varied selection of drawings from many periods.
