It is hard to resist the appeal of Ling Jian's largescale portraits. Uniforms, weapons, sometimes vulgar and often surreal elements such as bunny ears compliment and oppose each other against scenes of cultural revolution and modern media.Having lived in China and Europe, Ling Jian feeds differing cultural experiences into his work.This monograph, coinciding with his major retrospective at Gana Art in Seoul in June 2014, spans the artistic creation of Ling Jian's oeuvre over the past two decades. Ling Jian was born in Shandong Province, China. He lives and works in Berlin and Beijing.
