The château de Vincennes. anglicky

Více o knize

The legend is not mistaken: Saint Louis is indeed the first king to use Vincennes as a high place of government. In the 14th century, Charles V's project is more ambitious: to create a political capital within the immense fortress he has built. Expressing in a grand manner the birth of the modern state, it remains the only major witness of medieval architecture still existing in Paris. Raised at the gates of the capital, both to defend it and to protect the kings from uprisings, it will alter the living conditions of the French monarchy until 1682, when Louis XIV prefers Versailles. While the keep serves as a dungeon, the castle once again protects Paris during the invasions of the 19th century. Current restorations are restoring it to a place worthy of its central role in the history of France.
