The purpose of this book is to examine critically techniques of assessment, measurement and projection for use in studies of the supply and demand aspects of sport and recreation. The research was carried out in two main parts: first, a desk study of previous social research relating to recreation, covering such areas as questionnaire and interview surveys, time budget diaries, non-survey methods of data collection and forecasting techniques; and, second, a series of experimental studies which seek to throw more light on the usefulness of particular techniques and concepts for the future planning of recreation oportunities
