The Brontes are the world's most remarkable literary family and their novels are among the best loved books in the English language. They have been translated into dozens of languages and dramatized on stage, screen and television many times. This short biography covers the Brontes' childhood at Haworth parsonage, set on the edge of the Yorkshire moors, their trials as teachers and governesses, the sad decline of their only brother, Branwell, and their tragic early deaths. They are also set within the context of nineteenth-century society and the position of women and education in both their lives and novels is explored.
