Christian Ethics in Secular Cultures

Více o knize

A central question in Christian ethics is the relationship between moral principles within the Christian community and the ethics of secular societies. Christians are called to a distinct identity shaped by God's moral will as revealed in the Bible and creation, while also engaging with the ethics of diverse worldviews that can have profound implications, as seen in historical events like the Holocaust. This raises the challenge of how Christians can participate in shaping moral considerations in their cultures and communicate their convictions effectively. Johnson draws on two decades of experience teaching ethics in secular universities across Europe and North America to explore these issues. He addresses topics such as sex, marriage, family, work, and economics, while also examining theological and philosophical foundations. Johnson holds a Ph.D. in ethics from the University of Iowa and has served in various academic roles, including a church planter and visiting professor at a dissident university in Belarus. Since 1996, he has lived in Prague, where he has taught at multiple institutions and currently holds several significant academic and advisory positions. His wife, Leslie P. Johnson, is the director of a Christian international school in Prague.
