Set against the backdrop of Queen Elizabeth I's reign, the story follows Lady Katherine, who, after her father's execution for his Catholic faith, learns of his involvement in a murder plot against the queen. Disguised as a boy, she journeys to London with the intent to assassinate Elizabeth. As she becomes part of a play written by William Shakespeare, she discovers it is a ruse to thwart rebellion, orchestrated by fellow cast member Toby Ellis, a young spy harboring his own secrets.
