Abstract: A guide for managers and other professionals concerned with productivity, quality, and achievement presents a collection of management tools, stories, and approaches based on experience, but including social science theories and ideas from the arts and literature. Emphasis is placed on defining self-interests, cutting clutter, seeking solutions, personal career development, selecting and developing subordinates, effective communicatin, gathering support, and survival through persistance. The text advances the thesis that achievement levels can be raised by stripping away waste and inefficiency, and that self-interest is the key to achievement. (wz).
