Mont Saint Michel rises in the middle of a bay open to the English Channel, invaded by the strongest tides in Europe. This jewel of the Middle Ages, consisting of a vast monastic complex overlooking a village surrounded by ramparts, was, like Rome and Santiago de Compostela, one of the most important pilgrimage sites of medieval Western Europe. More than a thousand years after the emergence of this spiritual center, the religious vocation of the abbey remains, as evidenced by the presence of Brothers and Sisters from the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem and the continuity of pilgrimages. The author invites readers to discover the history and architecture of Mont Saint Michel, without neglecting the issue of the silting of the Mont, the resolution of which will be a real challenge for future generations.
