Cherokee Jimmie Durham, a poet, writer, and visual artist, works with salvaged materials to make tongue-in-cheek assaults on the enduring colonial foundations of Western culture. An activist in the American Indian movement in the 1970s, Durham aims to "be so surgically specific it becomes universal." This publication presents more than 100 images of Durham's installations, accompanied by a series of essays by critics and essayists on the themes surrounding his work.
