Ten years ago excavators on Samos discovered a colossal kouros dating to the sixth century BC whose torso and head were largely intact. This report describes the discovery and restoration of the truly impressive and beautifully sculpted kouros and discusses its date and the date of an inscription on the left leg, as well as form, meaning, original decoration and Egyptian influence.
