This monograph is an interdisciplinary study of Russian films. The author asserts that cinema more than any of the other arts is close to dreams by the nature of watching this art. The author bases his analysis on the theory of Carl Jung, which says that dreams express segments of collective unconsciousness and gain the form of stable dramatic structures. These structures wandering from film to film in altered form is what the author calls "videodreams". Mikhalkovich analyzes films by O. Ioseliani, S. Govorukhin, M. Kalatozov, M. Khutsiev, A. Rogozhkin, V. Shukshin, A. Tarkovskii, etc.
