The Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order and Buddha’s Light International Association, founded by Venerable Master Hsing Yun, are among the largest Buddhist organizations dedicated to Humanistic Buddhism, a contemporary approach aimed at improving the world through the Buddha’s teachings. Over the past 50 years, significant progress has been made in Chinese-speaking communities, with ongoing efforts to translate Buddhist texts into multiple languages, including English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese. This translation process is essential for making Buddhist wisdom accessible to a broader audience. The Glossary of Humanistic Buddhism is a revised and expanded version of the Standardized FGS Names and Terms created by the International Buddhist Progress Society in 2005. It compiles additional entries from various Fo Guang Shan publications and aims to clarify terms, historical events, and key concepts for translators. With around 5,000 entries categorized into terminology, buildings, events, departments, publications, and calligraphy, this glossary serves as a vital resource for understanding and translating Humanistic Buddhism. The editorial team welcomes feedback for future editions and encourages readers to contribute to its improvement.
