Delhi, the seat of empires from pre-historic times, has witnessed seven dynasties trying to found cities at its site. Modern Delhi incorporates not only Lal Kot, Ferozabad, Jahanpanah and Shahjahanabad but also Lutyens' Delhi, which was the British attempt at rivalling the earlier glory.
