If you develop media-rich iOS or OS X apps, Apple's AV Foundation offers incredible capabilities, but it can be overwhelming due to its size and complexity. Bob McCune's guide provides a productive approach to mastering this powerful framework. His live presentations and GitHub projects have already assisted thousands of developers in getting started. This resource emphasizes hands-on learning through the creation of real-world apps, including a voice memo app, custom video player, video editor, and an image/video camera app. As you work through these projects, you'll acquire essential techniques to build advanced media applications from scratch. McCune includes carefully crafted challenges and complete starter apps to enhance your understanding of Apple's media framework. Key topics covered include how AV Foundation integrates into Apple's media ecosystem, enabling audio playback and recording, enhancing video playback for a dynamic experience, and using AV Kit to synchronize user interfaces with iOS Videos or OS X QuickTime Player. You'll also learn to develop media capture apps with real-time video processing, implement custom video players, and integrate advanced features like video zooming, face detection, and high frame rate capture. Additionally, the guide covers mixing audio tracks, automating volume control, and building sophisticated non-linear editing apps with advanced video editing capabilities.
