In a world filled with video games and television, the significance of the written word can be easily overlooked. One of the most impactful ways for parents to support their children's learning is through reading, closely followed by encouraging them to write. Letter writing emerges as a rewarding method to teach essential communication skills. The author offers warm suggestions for parents to help their children enjoy the process of writing and receiving letters, sharing personal experiences with her family and pets. She explains how letters to Socks and Buddy are managed at the U.S. Soldiers' and Airmen's Home and provides a brief history of White House pets, from Dolley Madison's parrot to the Bushes' spaniel, Millie. The book highlights how Socks and Buddy engage in White House life, greeting guests and visiting hospitals. Additionally, it features over fifty letters from children to the First Pets, ranging from requests for "paw-tographs" to heartfelt messages and advice. Illustrated with more than eighty photographs capturing Socks and Buddy in various moments, this book aims to inspire children to express their thoughts and wishes through writing.
