Richard Allen Morris Retrospective 1958-2004 'Ein Maler für Maler' wird der in San Diego lebende Künstler Richard Allen Morris (geb. 1933 in Chula Vista, Kalifornien) genannt. Das umfangreiche Buch Setzt mit dem gegenständlichen Frühwerk ab 1958 an und reicht bis zu den neuesten Arbeiten von 2004. Nach einer höchst eigenwilligen Interpretation der Pop-Art in den 1960er Jahren wendet sich Morris zu Anfang der 1970er Jahre der abstrakten Malerei zu und entwickelt hier eine geradezu unbegrenzte Experimentierfreude. Er dekonstruiert quasi das gesamte Formenspektrum der Abstraktion, angefangen von der klassischen Moderne. Sein ureigener Humor trägt dazu bei, auch die unausgesprochenen Verdikte der Malerei mit Verve anzugehen.

It took a long time for the painter Richard Allen Morris - born in 1933 in Long Beach - to be finally discovered. The self-taught artist with his object-like colour reliefs and material paintings was considered to be more a painter's painter until two retrospectives were held in 2004 in the Museum Haus Lange, Krefeld and the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego respectively. Colleagues such as David Reed or John Baldessari valued and value the work of this fine ironist, who has been naming his groups of motifs Heads±, Jaws± or Ray Guns± in paintings and painted objects for years now. The current volume is the second publication in the Kienbaum's Artist Books± series and is intended not merely to provide an insight into the collection, but also and above all to impart comprehensive detail on a specific artistic position in a high-quality format once a year.
