    • Compares the demographic characteristics of the migrants with those of the native Irish population and identify the sectors in which the migrants are employed. The experience of employment and unemployment of migrants and natives during boom and recession periods are compared, giving particular attention to the effects of EU immigration on labour displacement, earnings, employment and welfare tourism. Examines how immigration from the new EU member states and the threat it posed to the terms and conditions of employment of Irish workers enabled the trade union movement to tackle issues within the labour market that benefited both Irish and migrant workers
