In 13 Kapiteln bieten die Ausstellung und der dazugehörige Katalog einen tiefgreifenden Einblick in das kosmopolitische Denken von Joseph Beuys, wie es sich in seinen Aktionen manifestiert, die in Form von Videoprojektionen und Fotografien präsentiert werden. Denn dort - als handelnde, sprechende und sich bewegende Figur - untersuchte Beuys die zentrale und radikale Idee seines erweiterten Kunstbegriffs: "Jeder Mensch ist ein Künstler". Das Ziel seines universalistischen Ansatzes war es, die Gesellschaft von Grund auf zu erneuern. Bis heute ist sein Einfluss in künstlerischen und politischen Diskursen spürbar. In der Ausstellung treten zeitgenössische Künstler*innen neben Vertreter*innen aus den unterschiedlichsten Bereichen der Gesellschaft mit dem agierenden Beuys in einen vielschichtigen, transkulturellen Dialog. Von heute aus bestätigen, befragen und erweitern sie seine Thesen zu den Möglichkeiten einer von der Kunst her gedachten Zukunft

In thirteen chapters, the exhibition and the accompanying catalogue offer profound insight into the cosmopolitan thinking of Joseph Beuys, as manifested in his actions, which are presented in the form of video projections and photographs. For it is in this capacity―as an acting, speaking, and moving figure―that Beuys examined the central, radical idea of his expanded concept of art: "Every human being is an artist." The goal of his universalist approach was to renew society from the ground up. To this day, his influence can be felt in artistic and political discourses. In this exhibition, contemporary artists and representatives from various areas of society enter into a multilayered, transcultural dialogue with Beuys. From today’s perspective, they confirm, question, and expand upon his theses about the possibilities of a future conceived via art. "Some forty-odd years after Bruce Nauman began tweaking the conventions of studio practice and the hallowed persona of the 'artist-as-seer,'" Pamela M. Lee wrote in Artforum not long ago, "his station in postwar art history rests secure. Das Ausstellungsprojekt DEKALOG zeigt zehn assoziative Denkräume, bei denen die zehn Gebote in ein oszillierendes Verhältnis von Geschichte und Gegenwart gestellt werden. Das ungewöhnliche Projekt von Eugen Blume, Matthias Flügge, Frizzi Krella und Mark Lammert geht dabei ganz besondere Wege, indem es weder kunsthistorisch noch theologische zu fassende Denk- und Assoziationsräume eröffnet. In einer Art medialem Kaleidoskop verdeutlichen dabei Bilder, Artefakte, Dokumente, Literatur und Filmsequenzen das gemeinsame Prinzip dieses Assoziationsexperimentes, das in der begleitenden Publikation dokumentiert wird.
