Dále zde vystupuje Pierre Bezuchov, který je nositelem Tolstého myšlenek, hodnotí dění kolem Napoleona. Bezuchov šel do války ze zvědavosti, postupně se v něm zrodí odpor k násilí a prochází válkou jako pozorovatel. Tolstoj v tomto díle odsuzuje války a násilí, a to i obranné. Na náměty románu Vojna a mír složil stejnojmenou operu Sergej Prokofjev.
