Manche Branchen hängen innerhalb der Wertschöpfung stark von Süßwasserressourcen ab, was die Risikominderung erst recht wirtschaftlich sinnvoll macht. Im Lebensmitteleinzelhandel Deutschlands geht ein jeder verdienter Euro mit einem Wasserverbrauch von durchschnittlich 47 Liter Wasser einher. Im Textilsektor sind es 14 Liter pro Euro. Angesichts der Tatsache, dass die Landwirtschaft weltweit 70 % des Süßwassers verbraucht, überrascht dieses Verhältnis nicht. Welche wirtschaftlichen Folgen Dürren oder Überschwemmungen nach sich ziehen, war in Australien, Indien, Pakistan, Ägypten, Marokko, Südafrika, Spanien, den USA, Peru und in anderen Ländern zu beobachten. Und wie schaut die Zukunft aus? Da von einer Steigerung des weltweiten Wasserverbrauchs in den nächsten Jahrzehnten um etwa 40 % ausgegangen wird, sollten wir sowohl die vorliegenden Konzepte als auch den Status quo infrage stellen. Landwirtschaftliche Zertifizierungssysteme fungieren als wichtiges Lieferketten- Managementtool für Händler und Erzeuger. Bereits 2015 haben wir 17 konventionelle und vier Bio-Standards in Hinblick auf umfangreiche Wasserkriterien bewertet. Seither ist viel geschehen. Die Wasserkriterien, mit denen die Systeme arbeiten, sind noch ausgefeilter, und die Systeme stellen sich dem Dialog zum Thema Wasser. Im vorliegenden Fortschrittsbericht haben wir bei unseren Analysen weitere Standardsysteme in unsere Analysen einbezogen und geschaut, welche Fortschritte möglich sind. Wir hoffen, auf diese Weise dazu beitragen zu können, dass Süßwasser in die Standardsysteme der Agrarwirtschaft noch umfassender als gemeinschaftliche Ressource integriert wird.
