Názov Sedmohradsko nesie v súčasnosti jedna z troch veľkých historických provincií (Sedmohradsko, Valašsko a Moldavsko) tvoriacich Rumunsko, najväčšiu krajinu v juhovýchodnej Európe (s rozlohou približne 240000 km²), ktorá je domovom majoritného rumunského národa. Geografický význam názvu Sedmohradska sa časom menil. V stredoveku (12.16. stor.) sa vzťahoval len na konkrétny región vnútri karpatského oblúka s rozlohou vyše 50 000 km², ktorý bol v tom čase samostatným vojvodstvom v rámci Uhorského kráľovstva. Neskôr, po vzniku Sedmohradského kniežatstva, sa označenie rozšírilo aj na ostatné provincie na západe. V súčasnosti sa názov Sedmohradsko používa v širokom význame, to znamená, že ľudia ním bežne označujú celé severozápadné Rumunsko, ktoré tvorí vlastné (vnútrokarpatské) Sedmohradsko, Banát, Krišana a Marmaroš. Kniha hovorí o minulom živote najvýznamnejších komunít, populácií, národov a národností, ktoré žili na území Sedmohradska, počnúc Geto-Dákmi a končiac ľuďmi, ktorí tu žijú dnes.

This book reconstructs the perceptions about mixed marriages across generations, starting from a detailed analysis of the statistical background and a description of this phenomenon in the historical past, and then focusing on the case history of families. As ethnic and religious diversity has long been an important source of social tension in Transylvania, mixed marriages have the potential to link the communities and act as a bridge between ethnic groups. Considering the multilevel analyses, the time frame from 1895 to nowadays as well as the historical past of Transylvania, this volume has a strong multidisciplinary character, predicated on a combination of historical, demographical and sociological methods.
