Eine heissblütige Comicreihe aus China, die die vergangene Zeitepoche der Dynastien der Sui und Tang wiederauferstehen lässt. Drittes Jahr der Daye-Ära (607 n. Chr.). Unter der Tyrannei des Kaisers Yang Guang (Yangdi) der Sui-Dynastie lebt die Bevölkerung in tiefster Not. Der über aussergewöhnliche kämpferische Fähigkeiten verfügende Glücksritter Daoma verdingt sich als Kopfgeldjäger und Geleitschützer in den Wüstengebieten der westlichen Regionen und muss sich gleichzeitig vor den Strafverfolgern des chinesischen Kaiserhofes in Acht nehmen, die auf ihn Jagd machen. Dann nimmt er jedoch den Auftrag an, einen mysteriösen, maskierten Reisenden bis zur chinesischen Hauptstadt Chang’an zu eskortieren. Der vermeintlich ganz gewöhnliche Auftrag entpuppt sich als hochgefährliches Unterfangen, und unterwegs lauern überall Gefahren und tun sich klaffende Abgründe auf. Damit geht der Vorhang auf für eine Reise, die auf das Schicksal der ganzen Welt Einfluss nehmen wird ….

Unterwegs treffen Daoma und seine Weggefährten auf den Schwertkämpfer Shu und seine Geisel Yanziniang, die von einer gewalttätigen Bande umzingelt werden. Nachdem Daoma die beiden aus der Umzingelung befreit hat, entscheiden sie sich, sich der Reisegesellschaft anzuschliessen. Jedoch kann die Gruppe keine Atempause schöpfen, denn alsbald erwartet sie eine weitere unerwünschte Begegnung …
