V sedmém čísle Poutníka najde čtenář povídku Roberta Ervina Howarda Ďábel v železo vtělený (v té době česky doposud nevydanou), další příběh z Dobrodružství Vesmírného ohaře – Riimové – a nakonec povídku Gustava Gaspariniho Dale 3000.

Další dvě povídky jsou od českých autorů – Ivan Adamovič popisuje v Posledním Cimmeřanovi svou návštěvu u R. E. Howarda a Carola Biedermannová s Janem Pavlíkem se v příběhu Přátelé z onoho světa věnují setkání Conana s kapitánem Kirkem z kosmické lodi Enterprise.

Sbírka povídek Netvor a jiní vetřelci zahrnuje třináct různých příběhů. Všechny mají společné rysy v tom, že pojednávají o střetu člověka s mimozemskou civilizací v daleké budoucnosti. V některých povídkách se lidé musí bránit útokům cizích ras, v jiných jsou naopak útočníky sami.

Hlavní hrdina díla, je mladý Slan – Jommy. Slan je nová forma člověka. Zdokonalení, inteligentnější, fyzicky zdatnější, pomaleji stárnoucí druh ovládající telepatii a čtení myšlenek. O Slanech se traduje, že pomocí tajemných mutačních přístrojů znetvořují lidská mláďata ve snaze vytvořit z nich další Slany.

Orwell předpověděl, že se rok 1984 stane rokem "Velkého bratra" a obdobím "Nové řeči". Ale rok 1984 uplynul a Velký bratr přijal jinou, reálnější formu. Nová řeč byla nahrazena zcela novým jazykem programátorů a počítačových mikročipů - vyhlídky na roky příští jsou mnohem ostřeji definovány a mají téměř nelidskou formu. A. Following the success of the stories that formed The Weapon Shops of Isher, van Vogt wrote the novel, The Weapon Makers, in 1943, to enlarge the story of human immortality, the conflict between a controlling government, The House of Isher, the mysterious Weapon Shops and man's place in the universe. The promise of the Weapon Shops' slogan, The Right to Buy Weapons is the Right to Be Free, is described thus: "Many of these weapons still carried the old names. “Guns” they were called, or “revolvers,” or “rifles,” but there the resemblance ended. These “guns” did not shoot bullets, they discharged energy in many forms and quantities. Some of them could kill or destroy at a thousand miles if necessary, and yet they were controlled by the same sensitive elements as the Weapon Shop door. Just as the door refused to open for police officers, Imperial soldiers or people unfriendly to the Shops, so these guns had been set to fire only in self-defense, and against certain animals during open season. They also had other special qualities, particularly as to defense and speed of operation."
