      Německý originál knihy Mimo dobro a zlo. Předehra k filosofii budoucnosti (Jenseits von Gut und Böse. Vorspiel einer Philosophie der Zukunft) byl poprvé publikován v Lipsku roku 1886 u C. G. Naumanna, vlastním nákladem autora. Kniha tedy vyšla bezprostředně po Jak pravil Zarathustra (1883-1885), ale materiál k ní shromažďoval Nietzsche už od začátku osmdesátých let, čerpaje z poznámek zapsaných dokonce i před vydáním Radostné vědy (1882). Nietzsche sám představuje místo, které tato kniha zaujímá mezi jeho ostatními spisy, takto: "Myšlenky, první zápisky a formulace všeho druhu, které tvoří základ spisu, spadají do mé minulosti: totiž do oné záhadné doby, ve které vznikala kniha Tak pravil Zarathustra: již tato paralelnost by mohla přispět k porozumění tak těžko srozumitelnému dílu, zejména k porozumění jeho vzniku (...). I když Předehra filosofie budoucnosti nechce platit jako komentář k Zarathustrovým řečem, přece jen jde o jakýsi předběžný glosář, v němž se vyskytují všechny nejdůlež
