Stewart O'Nan schreibt als James Coltrane. Stewart O’Nan wurde 1961 in Pittsburgh/Pennsylvania geboren und wuchs in Boston auf. Er arbeitete als Flugzeugingenieur und studierte an der Cornell University Literaturwissenschaft. Heute lebt er wieder in Pittsburgh. Für seinen Erstlingsroman „Engel im Schnee“ erhielt er 1993 den William-Faulkner-Preis. Auch für seine beiden Romane „Die Chance“ und „Westlich des Sunset“ wurde er von der Kritik gefeiert und eroberte sich auch in Deutschland eine große Leserschaft.
