      Hutong sind klassische, meist kleine Gassen in Peking. Manche Pekinger sagen: Es gibt 3600 bekannte Hutongs, dazu kommen zahlreiche unbekannte. In diesem Buch geht es um die Eisentor-Gasse in der Nähe des Gebietes Cai Shi Kou, im südlichen Teil Pekings. Die 85-jährige Oma, damals die kleine Yingzi, bringt uns mit ihrer Geschichte wieder in ihre alte Gasse zurück. Fast alle Häuser aus dem Buch existieren heute nicht mehr, nur ein alter Baum erinnert an früher. Damals spiete sich das Alltagsleben der Menschen in den ruhigen Höfen von Peking ab. Mit der Zeit wird aus dem kleinen naiven Kind eine alte Dame mit grauem Haar. Solche Veränderungen geschehen oft wie nebenbei, und das Leben nimmt seinem Lauf. Der alte Baum mit seinen üppigen Blättern steht still im Sonnenlicht der Hutong und scheint ruhig zu beobachten, wie sich die kleine Gasse und die Welt verändern. Detusche Ausgabe.
