Every year since 1958 an international jury has convened in the Netherlands under the auspices of the World Press Photo Foundation to choose the world's finest press photographs. Universally recognized as the definitive competition for photographic reportage, it has been described by former art director of The Sunday Times, Michael Rand, as "the international photographic contest." Publishing the results of the latest annual World Press Photo Contest, this exceptional book contains the very best press photographs from 2015-pictures submitted by photojournalists, picture agencies, newspapers, and magazines throughout the world. Selected from thousands, these prizewinning photos capture the most powerful, moving, and sometimes disturbing images of the year.

Eine Auswahl der besten Pressefotografie des Jahres 2010, präsentiert im renommierten internationalen Wettbewerb World Press Photo. Dieser Band hebt die bedeutendsten Ereignisse des Jahres durch beeindruckende, in verschiedenen thematischen Kategorien ausgezeichnete Bilder hervor, darunter Porträts, Nachrichten, Kunst und Unterhaltung sowie Natur. Jährlich lädt World Press Photo Pressefotografen aus der ganzen Welt ein, an diesem als dem wichtigsten und prestigeträchtigsten im Fotojournalismus geltenden Wettbewerb teilzunehmen. Die Fotografien wurden im Februar 2011 in Amsterdam von einer internationalen Jury aus einundzwanzig anerkannten Fachleuten im Bereich der Pressefotografie bewertet. Das Cover des Buches zeigt das preisgekrönte Bild des World Press Photo 2010, ein eindrucksvolles Porträt von Jodi Bieber einer afghanischen Frau, Bibi Aisha, deren Ehemann ihr als Strafe die Ohren und die Nase abgeschnitten hat. David Burnett, der Präsident der Jury, betont, dass dieses Bild eine Kombination aus Horror und Schönheit darstellt und nicht nur Aishas Fall, sondern auch den vieler Frauen in ähnlichen Situationen weltweit widerspiegelt.
