Ten negativ spal je třaskavá směs hororu a thrilleru, ve které se nechvalně proslulá „vyvražďovačka“ z devadesátých let dočkává remaku a zároveň s filmem znovu ožívá i kletba, která ho sužovala. Hned poté, co novinářka Laura Warrenová přistane v L. A., aby napsala článek o natáčení nové hororové minisérie, stane se svědkyní sebevraždy. Přímo před jejíma očima skočí z mostu neznámý muž. Lauřinou první myšlenkou je: „A už to začíná“ Miniseriál, o kterém má psát, je totiž adaptací hororu z devadesátých let. Hororu, ve kterém před třiceti lety hrála – a před jehož prokletím celý život utíká. Ale jsou scénáře, které nechtějí zůstat v archivu. Mrtvol rychle přibývá a Laura se záhy ocitá na útěku před zákonem. Nezbývá jí než doufat, že se jí, za pomoci své sestry a cynické věštkyně, podaří kletbu zrušit.
