Ronald Jager, bývalý profesor filozofie na Yaleově univerzitě, své rané zážitky z rodinné farmy v Michiganu zachytil ve své paměti. Po studiích na Harvardu se Jager věnoval psaní esejí pro přední publikace a knih o životě na farmě, které reflektují jeho hluboký zájem o americký venkov.
