João Ubaldo Ribeiro kam 1990 als Stipendiat des DAAD für fünfzehn Monate nach Berlin. Die Frankfurter Rundschau bat ihn, in jener Zeit, in der die Deuschen ein Jahr nach dem Fall der Mauer vor allem mit sich selbst beschäftigt waren, Eindrücke und Erfahrungen in monatlichen Beiträgen für die Zeitung zu schildern - Beobachtungen und Gedanken eines Brasilianers in Berlin, Innenansichten eines Außenseiters. So entstanden die Glossen über die Deutschen, den Autor selbst und seine Familie, oft über die Beziehungen zwischen den beiden Ländern und Völkern. Die Kolumnen wurden später sowohl in Brasilien als auch in Deutschland in Buchform veröffentlicht. Die nun vorliegende Ausgabe vereint zum ersten Mal den portugiesischen Originaltext und die deutsche Übersetzung. João Ubaldo Ribeiro chegou a Berlim em 1990 como convidado do DAAD. Após a chegada da família Ribeiro a Berlim, o jornal Frankfurter Rundschau iniciou a publicação duma crônica mensal do autor. Os alemães pareciam principalmente ocupados com eles mesmos, e o jornal pediu-lhe que anotasse suas impressões e reflexões sobre o país em mudança, sua gente, seus costumes, experiências com as quais um brasileiro em Berlim se via confrontado: visões interiores de alguém de fora. Assim nasceram as crônicas, mais tarde publicadas em livro, no Brasil e também na Alemanha. Esta é a primeira edição bilingue.
