Kultovní román, jež autora proslavil po celém světě. Americké psycho je fiktivní zpovědí Patricka Batemana, bohatého newyorského mladíka z řad takzvaných „yuppies“, který se v honbě za novými prožitky stává brutálním masovým vrahem. Ellis v knize nejmenšího detailu popisuje nejen Batemanovy konzumní obsese (návštěvy drahých restaurací a barů, fitcenter, závislost na drogách, hudebních hitech či slaboduchých televizních talk show atd.), ale i násilné, neobyčejně brutální scény mučení a vražd. Nepochopení, že nejde o realistickou výpověď, ale o ostrou satiru na konzumní atmosféru 80. let, vedlo k ostrým útokům na knihu, kterou ve Spojených státech řada velkých knihkupectví odmítlo prodávat.

V malém společensky liberálním campusu v Nové Anglii se odehrává smutně zábavný příběh kuriózního milostného trojúhelníku: dívky Lauren, která s každou změnou partnera mění i studijní obor, Paula, otevřeného homosexuála, jehož vášně maskují chladnokrevný pragmatismus, a Seana, který za nerozhodností a cynismem skrývá - i před sebou samým - romantickou touhu.

Bret Easton Ellis se stejně hbitou satirou, na jakou jsme zvyklí z jeho předchozích knih, nahlíží za lidské pozlátko a nemilosrdně nám ukazuje, co je pod ním a čeho jsme se odjakživa báli. Ellisova prvotina, a byť je méně známá než Americké psycho, nijak za ním nezaostává. Autor v ní otevřeně, jak je jeho zvykem, zachycuje všechny neduhy, jimiž v 80. letech 20. století trpěl svět americké smetánky, zobrazuje svět drog a citové vyprahlosti dětí hollywoodských celebrit.

Nejnovější dílo autora Amerického psycha a Míň než nula. Opět se v něm setkáme s nyní již úspěšným scenáristou Clayem Eastonem, který v „městě hříchu“ Los Angeles připravuje svůj další film.
