L'exposition et le livre cherchent à combiner les aspects esthétiques, scientifiques et éducatifs des mathématiques en une expérience unique. Les six mathématiciens – Sir Michael Atiyah, Alain Connes, Nicole El Karoui, Mikhail Gromov, Cédric Villani et Don Zagier – représentent une gamme de parcours géographiques et de disciplines mathématiques. Les artistes qui collaborent avec eux sont Raymond Depardon, Cai Guo-Qiang, David Lynch et Hiroshi Sugimoto.
