Brutal Beauty presents Isaac Julien's refreshing vision of Derek Jarman as a true Renaissance man--a painter, director, activist, diarist and gardener--whose infectiously prolific range of enterprises belies a consistent preoccupation with liberated sexual politics and the defiance of inherited mores.

This biography was researched in the very room where Margery Allingham worked, and was written with the full co-operation of Margery's sister, her secretary and her housekeeper. It was first published in 1991. Since then, however, new material has become available, including a revolutionary collection of letters and the startling truth about her husband's relationship with the writer Nancy Spain. Was there a corpse underneath the sofa? The book's new title, new introduction and afterword invite the reader to look again. • In this new book, Julia Peyton-Jones tells the story of her life with her three-year-old daughter Pia over the course of the year when Covid-19 spread throughout the world. Made every evening once her daughter had gone to bed, this beautiful series of drawings comprises a visual diary of their lives in the lead-up to and during the pandemic.0Peyton-Jones arranges her sketches, executed in ink, charcoal, pencil and watercolour, into grid formations that act like windows onto the special moments of each day, accompanied by captions. As the book develops, the drawings burst into colour and are complemented by reflections on motherhood, as well as signposts that reflect the state of the world as it was changing.0At the heart of the book is the relationship between a mother and her daughter, which is simultaneously deeply personal and universal. During the pandemic, mother and child are contained in a bubble, watching the park and the spaces they once occupied from their window. Everyday events become treasured highlights of the days, which roll by

This exhibition by Michael Craig-Martin (b. Dublin, 1941) brings together works from 1981 to 2015, including his era-defining representations of once familiar yet obsolete technology; laptops, games consoles, black-and-white televisions and incandescent lightbulbs that highlight the increasing transience of technological innovation. The exhibition also features new wallpaper that has been conceived especially for the exhibition. From the earliest work in the show, a wall drawing first produced in 1981 (the same year that the first personal computer was made available), to a painting from 2014 that depicts the minimal lines of an iPhone, Craig-Martin's work has recorded the profound impact that electronic technology has had on the way we consume and communicate. The exhibition explores the seismic shift from analogue processes to digital technologies that informed the production and distribution of new kinds of objects in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. Exhibition: Serpentine Gallery, London, UK (25.11.2015.14.02.2016)
