    Alfred Thayer Mahan byl americký admirál, geostrateg a historik, jehož koncept „námořní síly“ založený na myšlence, že země s větší námořní mocí budou mít větší celosvětový dopad, ovlivnil strategické myšlení námořnictev po celém světě a dokonce přispěl k námořním závodům ve zbrojení před první světovou válkou.
