Už odnepaměti lidstvo vynalézá ďábelské prostředky k trestání, mučení a trýznění. Jakkoliv se nám to zdá odporné, tyto tortury byly celá staletí součástí práva. Publikace nás zavede do středověkých kobek, inkvizičních mučíren, ukáže nám veřejné popravy řečené autodafé, odhalí zrůdnost čarodějnických procesů a objasní metody i motivy mučitelů.

Hairspray is the 2003 Tony Award winner for Best Musical! Based on filmmaker John Waters' affectionately subversive homage to his Baltimore youth, Hairspray takes place in 1962. Chubby Tracy Turnblad (Marissa Jaret Winokur, 2003 Tony winner for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical) is transformed into a teen celebrity on a local TV dance program. With her irresistible stage mother (Harvey Fierstein, 2003 Tony winner for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical) at her side, she attempts to win the heart of the local heartthrob and integrate "The Corny Collins Show" at the same time.

Doing History bridges the gap between the way history is studied in school or as represented in the media and the way it is studied at university level. History as an academic discipline has dramatically changed in recent decades and has been enhanced by ideas from other disciplines, the influence of postmodernism and historians' incorporation of their own reflections into their work. Doing History presents the ideas and debates that shape how we 'do' history today, covering arguments about the nature of historical knowledge and the function of historical writing, whether we can ever really know what happened in the past, what sources historians depend on, and the relative value of popular and academic histories. This revised edition includes new chapters on public history and activist histories. It looks at global representations of the past across the centuries, and provides up-to-date suggestions for further reading, presenting the reader with a thorough and current introduction to studying history at an academic level as well as a pathway to progress this study further. Clearly structured and accessibly written, it is an essential volume for all students embarking on the study of history.

The book delves into the complexities of Britain in the 1960s, challenging the polarized views of the decade as either a 'golden age' or a source of modern social issues. It examines diverse aspects like pop culture, politics, feminism, and foreign policy, revealing that the significant changes were not as commonly understood. Key developments include the rise of a consumer economy, shifting views on individual rights, the impact of immigration, and Britain's transition from Empire to Europe. Mark Donnelly, a history lecturer, enriches the discussion with his expertise.
