Der englische Lyriker Alfred Edward Housman (1859-1936) ist im deutschen Sprachraum fast unbekannt. Das liegt unter anderem daran, daß er den Abdruck einzelner Texte aus seinem Gedichtzyklus 'A Shropshire Lad' nicht gestattete, was deren Aufnahme in Anthologien und damit ihre Verbreitung im nichtenglischen Sprachraum einschränkte. Die vorliegende Übersetzung soll dazu beitragen, Housmans Gedichte auch in Deutschland bekannt zu machen.
A Shropshire Lad was first published in 1896 at A. E. Housman's own expense.
