In the course of her scientific career, Christina Gansel has published contributions on a wide variety of linguistic issues; from her beginnings in grammar research, to research in the context of the semantics of verbs, to comprehensive work in the field of text linguistics. As diverse and heterogeneous as these fields of work may seem at first, the concept of system can be productively related to all of them. Christina Gansel's research topics are now to be productively connected within the framework of a Festschrift, whereby the text-language-system context is to serve as a unifying bracket.

Seminar paper from 2011 in the subject English - Discussion and Essays, 1,7, University of Cologne, English. The acting president of the United States, Barack Obama, captivated millions during his 2008 campaign with his slogan "Yes we can!" This message inspired a wave of euphoria that led to his historic election as the first black US President. Observing the significant events of 2008, I pondered why Obama resonated so deeply with so many Americans, instilling a renewed hope for a better future. Regardless of whether his goals were ultimately met, I seek to understand the values and ideas that fueled this excitement and how they were shaped by Obama's influence. A superficial examination reveals that the American Dream, rooted in the nation's history, played a crucial role in his speeches. This thesis will explore how Obama utilized and redefined the American Dream. I will begin with an overview of Obama's background and political ascent, followed by a historical context and a clear definition of the American Dream. A detailed analysis of selected speeches will focus on how Obama incorporates the Dream into his arguments, the values he emphasizes, and the impact of various audiences on his rhetoric. This exploration aims to uncover the intricate relationship between Obama's message and the enduring appeal of the American Dream.
