Ernest Belfort Bax byl anglický socialistický novinář a filozof, který se zabýval integrací marxistických idejí s myšlenkami Kanta a Schopenhauera. Hluboce zkoumal metafyzické a etické dopady socialismu a navrhl koncept „náboženství socialismu“ jako způsob překonání rozporů mezi osobním a sociálním, kognitivním a emocionálním. Bax, zapálený ateista, usiloval o osvobození pracujících od toho, co vnímal jako morálku střední třídy. Jeho práce se často zabývala složitými sociálními a politickými otázkami své doby.
