Jakýkoliv názvoslovný systém odpovídá stupni vývoje a úrovni vědění v době, kdy vznikl, a jeho přizpůsobení novým poznatkům často vede k porušení vnitřní konzistence, vzniku paralelních nomenklaturních systémů a celkovému nárůstu komplexity. Proto tento nový překlad Názvosloví anorganické chemie podle IUPAC sleduje co možná nejvěrněji anglickou předlohu, která nejvíce odpovídá aktuálnímu stavu a četností vydání reaguje na nejnovější změny v oboru. Je to dáno i celkovou internacionalizací vědy, chemii nevyjímaje, kdy angličtina představuje základní komunikační jazyk. Z praktických důvodů by tedy jednotlivé jazykové mutace měly být co nejpodobnější anglické verzi. Záměrem vydání této publikace nebylo vzít českým chemikům jejich oblíbené -ný, -natý, -itý, ... ani vytvořit nový, pro studenty nebezpečný materiál pro ústní a písemné zkoušení na středních či dokonce základních školách. Tradiční české názvy jsou součástí i tohoto překladu jako alternativní a akceptovaná forma popisu anorganických sloučenin a pojmenování prvků. Nový systém založený na stechiometrickém principu v kombinaci s co nejširším uplatněním adičního názvosloví a mezinárodně akceptovatelnými názvy prvků je dostatečně obecný (i když zpravidla méně úsporný) pro popis široké škály sloučenin a s malými modifikacemi použitelný v jakémkoliv evropském jazyce.
