Temná hra na hrdiny připomínající gotické Jumanji V devadesátých letech zmizelo šest puberťáků ve světě fantasy hry na hrdiny. Zpátky do naší reality se jich vrátilo jen pět. Nyní se musí coby dospělí vypořádat s démony v osobním životě i ve hře, která pro ně ještě zdaleka neskončila. Oslavuje i podrývá různé podoby žánru fantasy a jako postavy v ní účinkují také Emily Brontëová, H. G. Wells, Howard Phillips Lovecraft nebo jeden povědomý profesor s fajfkou. Série Kostky dvakrát získala prestižní British Fantasy Award a třikrát byla nominovaná na cenu Hugo.
