England exploits the American colonies with oppressive taxes to sustain its war with France. Chester Clayton, the son of an American father and an English mother, will join the rebels to defend his country from British tyranny and will end up imprisoned on a plantation in Virginia. Terry Darnell, the niece of the Rains, owners of the Ireland estate, has lived with them since she became an orphan. The encounter between them will unleash passions and hatreds, but Chester cannot help feeling attracted to the woman who both irritates and seduces him. An unexpected turn of events makes him a captain in the colonial army, and he is forced to save the lives of those who held him as a slave. Clayton manages to help the entire family escape to England. But he is not willing to let Terry escape with them. He has other plans for his indomitable Englishwoman.
