Mong Khéo, vagabond peu avare de coups, parcourt la campagne vietnamienne. Une vieille femme qui l'amadoue avec sa cuisine, lui demande de retrouver sa fille disparue. Aussi il part à sa recherche en compagnie du jeune Lau, apothicaire, et doté d'un pécule réuni par les villageois.
