Der süddeutsche Klassiker unter den Andachtsbüchern. Hiller, der Dichter des württembergischen Pietismus verfasste dieses ungewöhnliche Andachtsbuch mit Andachten für zwei Jahre. Einem Bibelwort folgt ein kurzer Gedanke und jeden Tag ein Lied bzw. Gedicht mit mehreren Strophen das den Gedanken aufgreift und auslegt. Beeindruckend ist das Durchdrungensein von der Gnade der Rechtfertigung und das in Lieder geformte Lob Gottes. Aufschlussreich ist die Betrachtung auch wenig beachteter Schriftstellen.
