Celebrate 90+ years of Mickey Mouse with one of the most expansive illustrated publications on the Disney universe: behind-the-scenes shots, rare animation art, and vintage comics trace Mickey's cartoons, his comic adventures, the world of Mickey merchandise and memorabilia, as well as the legendary Mickey Mouse Club.
Nothing succeeds like success, but for Donald Duck, honesty about his flaws endears him to us. This expansive illustrated publication revisits Donald’s journey over nine decades, following the success of a similar work on Mickey Mouse. From his debut in the 1934 Silly Symphony short film The Wise Little Hen, the authors explore Donald’s extensive catalog of over 170 cartoons, comic adventures, TV appearances, and theme park moments. They also delve into his unfinished film projects, providing fans with unique insights. Utilizing Disney’s historical archives and private collections, the authors present Donald’s story through rare concept art, story sketches, animation, and photographs. The work of key artists who shaped Donald’s character is highlighted, particularly the legendary Carl Barks, alongside previously unseen storyboard drawings. Donald Duck stands as the most frequently printed figure in comics outside the superhero genre and has appeared on screen more than any other Disney character. Since the 1950s, Duckburg has evolved into a global phenomenon, enriched by a new generation of international artists. As Carl Barks noted, Donald embodies our shared human experiences and mistakes, making him relatable and beloved. This monumental tribute captures the essence of the world’s most famous Duck.
