Longlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2009 The incredible, moving and hilarious story of Cheeta the Chimp, simian star of the big screen, on a behind-the- scenes romp through the golden years of Hollywood.
Cheeta the Chimp's remarkable journey began in 1932 when he was taken from the Liberian jungle by animal importer Henry Trefflich. He made his film debut in "Tarzan the Ape Man" and gained fame for his antics, including stealing clothes from actress Maureen O'Sullivan. Over the years, he appeared in numerous Tarzan films and later worked with Bela Lugosi. After retiring from acting in 1967, Cheeta now resides in Palm Springs, celebrated as the oldest living chimpanzee at age seventy-seven.
